What Can R-Studio Recover?
R-Studio is built for logical data loss. The storage device must still be accessible enough for software to read its sectors, either directly or through an image.
Accidentally deleted files
R-Studio can search file-system records for deleted files on supported storage.

The standard application can work with qualifying BitLocker volumes using a password, recovery key, or .bek file. Technician editions add deeper key options for professional work. R-Studio for Mac also supports encrypted APFS and Apple CoreStorage/FileVault configurations under supported conditions.
The software does not bypass strong encryption. The correct key or password is still required.

When R-Studio Probably Cannot Recover Your Data
R-Studio offers more technical control than most consumer tools, but it cannot reverse every type of data loss.
The data has been overwritten
A file record can survive after its content has been replaced.
This may cause R-Studio to display:
- The correct filename
- The original folder
- The expected file size
- A valid date
- A positive recovery estimate
The recovered file may still be unusable because some of its blocks now contain unrelated data.
A photograph may be partially grey. A document may refuse to open. A video may stop halfway. An archive may produce checksum errors.

SSD TRIM has cleared the blocks
R-Studio supports SSDs and NVMe storage, but support does not guarantee recovery of deleted SSD files.
TRIM allows an operating system to tell an SSD that deleted blocks are no longer needed. The drive can then clear or reuse those blocks internally. Once the underlying information is gone, changing scan software will not bring it back.
Stop using an affected SSD immediately and check:

- Application backups

Modern encrypted internal storage can make SSD recovery even less predictable.
The drive has serious physical damage

The files were securely erased
Secure-erasure tools are designed to prevent recovery.
They may overwrite storage blocks, issue drive-level erase commands, or destroy encryption keys. R-Studio cannot recreate properly erased content.
The encryption key is unavailable
R-Studio can process supported encrypted volumes after they are unlocked or supplied with the required credentials.
It cannot reconstruct a missing BitLocker recovery key, FileVault password, or cryptographic key from nothing.
The recovered file needs content repair
R-Studio focuses on extracting data. It does not include the type of integrated photo, video, and document repair found in Recoverit Premium or Stellar Premium.
Its hexadecimal editor can help an expert inspect file structures, but that is not the same as an automatic media-repair wizard.
When R-Studio recovers a damaged video or photo, another repair application may still be required.
Installing R-Studio Safely
R-Studio displays a warning during installation telling users not to install the program on the disk that contains the lost files.
This warning matters.
Installing an application writes:
- Program files
- Temporary files
- Registry or system data
- Logs
- Update information
- Activation data
Those writes can overwrite deleted content.
For an external drive, USB device, or memory card, install R-Studio on the computer’s healthy internal drive and scan the external storage.

A beginner should normally scan the complete relevant device unless the partition boundaries are clearly understood.

R-Studio includes a file viewer for checking supported files before recovery. It also estimates the chance of successful recovery based on the available file records and storage condition.
Previewing is especially important because R-TT does not provide ordinary refunds for downloadable software.
